Recognizing the rapid growth of the food and pharmaceutical industries in India, Wika India, a specialist in measurement instrumentation technology, has invested approximately Rs 400 crore in India over the last decade, with plans to double its turnover by the end of this year.

According to Gaurav Bawa, senior vice-president at Wika India, the company is positioning India as a key localization and distribution hub for nearby global markets.

Our goal is to transform India into a central base for localization and distribution to serve global markets efficiently,” Bawa said. “This is part of our long-term vision to align more closely with the growing needs of critical industries such as food, beverage, and pharma.”

As part of this, Wika India has invested in research and development and initiated several major projects across the country. The company recently inaugurated a new force measurement production unit in Pune. Additionally, it has established a new factory in Ghaziabad that specializes in the production of switches, transmitters, and bellows systems. This facility also houses a calibration laboratory for pressure and temperature measurement.

Wika has also commissioned new production lines in Pune dedicated to pressure gauge accessories. These lines are designed following Lean manufacturing principles, allowing flexible and efficient production of diverse components.

In the food and beverage industry, precision in quality control and measurement is critical. Machines used in processing and packaging must function flawlessly to ensure that the end product meets safety, consistency, and quality standards.

Post-Covid, the demand for precision and reliability in production has significantly increased,” Bawa said. “Our instruments enable companies to operate machinery with reduced downtime while delivering accurate and reliable readings of pressure, temperature, level, and force.”

Bawa said Wika India is implementing advanced technologies targeted specifically for the food and pharma sectors. With both industries expanding rapidly due to growing populations and global demand, he believes innovation must evolve. “The food and pharma sectors are critical worldwide, and the technological solutions designed for them must be unique and innovative,” he said.

Wika India customizes instruments to meet the individual requirements of the production processes, helping to ensure optimal performance and the highest quality standards.

Aligning with the broader industry shift toward digitalization and automation, Wika is actively integrating IoT-based technologies into its product portfolio. The company is developing smart devices that support predictive maintenance, remote monitoring, and real-time data analytics.

IoT is going to be a dominant force in the years ahead. At Wika, we are aligning our products with this trend to meet market expectations,” Bawa noted. “These solutions are not limited to food and pharma alone—they are being rapidly adopted across sectors.”

Sustainability is another target of Wika’s strategy. The company currently sources 50% of its energy from solar power and aims to increase this share to 60-70% in the coming years. It also has a long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality. “We believe quality and sustainability must go hand in hand,” said Bawa. “We are committed to providing the industry with reliable, long-lasting, and environmentally friendly solutions.”
