The Kidney Care Society has inaugurated the Sampa Bose Memorial Charitable Renal Care & Research Centre, a dedicated charitable kidney care facility near Science City, Kolkata, marking a significant step towards improving access to affordable, high-quality renal healthcare for underprivileged patients across West Bengal.
The center has been established through the generous donation of the six-storied Pratidin Media building by noted industrialist and philanthropist Swapan Sadhan ‘Tutu’ Bose in memory of his late wife Sampa Bose, whose courageous battle with chronic kidney disease inspired the creation of this institution. The center aims to ensure that no patient is denied life-saving kidney treatment because of financial constraints.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Locket Chatterjee, general secretary of BJP WB; Swami Sparshananda Ji Maharaj, Ramakrishna Mission; Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, actor; Mithu Chakraborty, actress; Dr. Pradip Mitra, ex-director of medical education and other eminent personalities.
With CKD emerging as one of India’s fastest-growing health challenges, the new centre seeks to bridge a critical gap in affordable renal care by offering advanced dialysis, diagnostics, critical care, and comprehensive patient support under one roof. The facility reflects The Kidney Care Society’s long-standing mission of ‘Good Renal Health for All’ and its commitment to making quality kidney care accessible to every section of society.
Dr. Pratim Sengupta, president, The Kidney Care Society, said, “Today, we are not merely inaugurating a hospital – we are beginning a movement towards equitable kidney care. Built on compassion and driven by purpose, this centre reflects our unwavering commitment that every patient deserves dignity, quality treatment, and hope, irrespective of financial circumstances.”
Speaking on the occasion, Srinjoy Bose, industrialist and trustee, said, “The inauguration of the Sampa Bose Memorial Charitable Renal Care & Research Centre marks the beginning of a transformative journey in affordable kidney care. The launch of its 18-bed Advanced Day Care Dialysis Unit, supported by critical care facilities, diagnostics, a pharmacy, and a dedicated team of specialists, will provide quality treatment with dignity to those who need it most. As the centre expands into a 50-bed charitable renal hospital with a world-class research laboratory and integrated wellness facilities, it will stand as a lasting legacy of compassion, innovation, and hope for countless families across West Bengal and beyond.”
