With over 80 years of experience, the Fujifilm has pioneered imaging technology and brought innovative products and solutions to the market. It is a major player in medical imaging and diagnostic equipment with a wide range of X-ray, mammography, endoscopes, and medical IT software. Chander Shekhar Sibal, executive vice president and head, Medical Division, Fujifilm India, says, “We are proud to have such a range of medical equipment that aids early detection of lung, stomach, colorectal, and breast cancer, thus saving lives.”

Fujifilm focuses on AI and IoT

Gurugram based Fujifilm India was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujifilm on 4 December 2007. According to Sibal, India has emerged as one of Fujifilm’s best-performing regions, with its primary focus on offering healthcare solutions through AI and IoT.

Studies suggest that Artificial intelligence (AI) simplifies patients, doctors, and hospital administrators’ lives by performing tasks (that humans typically do) in less time and at a lower cost. In addition, these technologies allow patients to track their ultrasounds, glucose monitors, and electrocardiograms by being connected. “Fujifilm is gaining ground in various forms and degrees with AI and the Internet of Things (IoT). These technologies are modifying the way we interact and gather information. Healthcare is no exception to this,” he added.

Digital mammography evolves enhanced usability and examination comfort.

Fujifilm’s computed radiography system has a 50% share in the Indian market. “For breast cancer, Fujifilm has introduced an Amulet Innovality – Full Filed Digital Mammography, a highly advanced breast cancer diagnostic machine to aid early detection.”

“Moreover, our Prima TM CR System is an affordable high-speed image processing tabletop FCR (Fuji Computed Radiography) with mammography compatibility. The machine supports a space-saving design and offers superior image quality of up to 50-micron resolution. With more than 40,000 thousand systems installed in India, Fujifilm’s focus is on AI and IoT,” Sibal said.

In response to the growing challenges that a hospital faces in managing radiology imaging services, Fujifilm has introduced medical services to empower hospitals with medical imaging information across the entire healthcare enterprise.

Fujifilm’s diagnostic imaging

Digital radiography (DR) provides immediate imaging results for the operator and less waiting for the patient.

Sibal stated, “Fujifilm India sees healthcare as the biggest opportunity in India, and it is not just selling products but solutions as well.” The company continuously develops and innovates its high-class diagnostic imaging and information systems  mammography machines, endoscopy systems, digital radiography systems, retrofit detectors, mobile X-ray machines, and local X-ray machines, in vitro diagnostic device (IVD), and healthcare IT synapse. The developments include the company’s new Artificial Intelligence-powered diagnostic solution REiLI that can help radiologists in India with their imaging workflow.

“Fujifilm’s strength lies in the fact that it has always been an imaging technology company. We have installations of Synapse PACS at more than 55 top of the line Institutes in India and over 5,000 installations worldwide.”

Healthcare future – 1,50,000 Health and Wellness Centers

The future of healthcare involves ongoing advances in digital healthcare technologies, such as artificial intelligence, IoT, and machine learning (ML), especially in the post-Covid-19 era. “To offer better, efficient, and affordable healthcare solutions, we are working with the Government’s Ayushman Bharat initiative. Also, with the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, we aim to provide assured, comprehensive, and quality antenatal care by creating 1,50,000 Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs) equipped with IBD/IVD, ECG and X-Ray Machine for basic screening.”

Fujifilm supports the Corona warriors

As India grapples with the ongoing pandemic, Fujifilm extends support to country’s healthcare professionals. The company has donated essential preventive healthcare utilities (PPE) to hospitals in Chandigarh and Mumbai.

The company is installing computed radiology, digital radiology systems, and imagers across isolation wards to ensure effectively monitor and control the disease outbreaks at hospitals. According to Sibal, these technologies will empower clinicians to improve their efficiency and expedite early disease diagnosis. “Our service teams are offering support to all hospitals from the day the lockdown started and helping the Corona warriors fight against the disease.”

Growth of Fujifilm’s healthcare division

Speaking about the company’s growth, Sibal said, “Fujifilm India’s medical division has been a key contributor to the company’s growth in India. 60% of our revenue comes from the medical division. According to him, computer radiology generates the maximum revenue of more than 50%, followed by digital radiology and full-field digital mammography, where Fujifilm further expects exponential growth.

Fujifilm also believes in enabling doctors with next-generation technology. “Our aim is to continue to hold our existing market position as a leader in these product categories, expanding our medical business further by strengthening our endoscopy line-up, adding new products, and focusing on the make in India products,” he concluded.
