The new Cath lab at Holy Family Hospital Mumbai

Holy Family Hospital Mumbai has inaugurated its second Cath Lab, yet another milestone in its bid to provide quality and affordable healthcare services. The lab was inaugurated by Geoffrey Nagpal, MD, EBCO and Ashley Nagpal, and Bishop Allwyn D’Silva. The guest of honor was Satish Sahney, former police commissioner of Mumbai.

The first modern hybrid Cath Lab was set up in 2010. It performs the entire spectrum of heart-related procedures such as angioplasty, angiography, rota ablation, intravascular ultrasound, TAVI and other structural heart diseases, and pacemaker insertion. The Cath Lab is utilized for interventional neurological and interventional radiological procedures. The hospital has been seeing a steady increase in the number of cardiovascular cases, especially in the post-Covid phase. With the addition of the second Cath Lab, it aims to enhance its capacity to serve more patients, reduce waiting time and improve patient outcomes.

The hospital’s executive director Dr Beena, expressed her gratitude to Geoffrey and Ashley Nagpal. “We are grateful to you for your support which has enabled us to materialize our plan for a second Cath Lab,” said Dr. Beena. She acknowledged the work of the head of the cardiology department, Dr. Brian Pinto.

Bishop D’Silva expressed his gratitude to the hospital. “I offer my sincere congratulations to the Holy Family Hospital on the inauguration of their second Cath Lab and their dedication to advancing medical technology.”

We have a long association with the hospital,” said Geoffrey Nagpal. “When the hospital expanded, we could not contribute to its growth due to circumstances. Now, when Dr. Pinto expressed the need for a second Cath Lab, we feel happy to contribute to it and make up for those years”.

Dr Pinto said, “We are from the center that has pioneered radial procedures in the city and in the country and has been associated with high-risk procedures through the trans-radial route. We have the highest number of electrophysiology and cardiac device implantation in Western India.”

The hospital’s cardiology department is now better equipped to handle the increasing demand for cardiac care, and the second Cath Lab will play a crucial role in achieving this goal.
